Academy Curriculum

The Academy follows a curriculum which provides all students with the skills, attitude and interests, to develop their potential and follow their chosen vocation. The curriculum reflects the Academy's commitment to life-long learning and high aspirations for all. We encourage all students to achieve beyond their expectations.

The Aims of the Curriculum are to develop:
  • Successful learners who enjoy learning, make progress and achieve to their highest capability, embodying a passion for excellence.
  • Confident individuals who are able to live safe, healthy and fulfilling lives.
  • Responsible citizens who make a positive contribution to society and show respect for all.
  • Students whose actions demonstrate that we are at the heart of the community through all avenues including appreciation of the aesthetic, sports and Arts.

The Academy covers all National Curriculum subjects and provides the opportunity to develop enrichment through the Arts and Sports.

Active learning is a key feature of curriculum delivery, where students are encouraged to develop their confidence in communication and problem solving as a means to foster independent and team learning. The Arts and Sport provide a platform where students can excel in their chosen discipline and develop their unique talents, which then provides confidence in the wider curriculum.

The Academy is committed to meeting the needs of all students and as such provides a range of extra-curricular provision to promote enjoyment and develop skills. The core skills of literacy and Numeracy act as a foundation to curriculum access and is a driving force in developing the skills of all students.

At Key Stage 4 and 5 students are guided and supported to follow courses which encourage everyone to achieve beyond their expectation. A range of level 3 courses are available for accreditation and alternate pathways for students who require a more specific programme due to their learning needs. Our curriculum and approaches to curriculum delivery promotes tolerance and empathy for all regardless of their gender, beliefs or ethnicity. Every member of our community has gifts and talents that we seek to grow and channel. On stage or on the rugby pitch, out in the local community or in the classroom, our students constantly remind us of their determination to excel. Therefore, within the safety of a culture of love and respect for all, we encourage each student to achieve beyond their expectations.
