Key Stage Information

The broad and balanced curriculum at The Victory Academy is designed to provide all pupils with a high-quality education appropriate to their needs in order to prepare them academically, socially and personally for the opportunities, challenges and responsibilities of further or higher education, employment and adult life.

The Academy’s virtues of Respect, Pride, Belief and Aspiring, and Endeavour to Achieve our Personal Best underpins all aspects of our inclusive provision assisting our students to enjoy their education, feel valued and to develop both academically and personally. All pupils are supported in their learning and encouraged to engage in every aspect of school life.

At The Victory Academy, we operate a 3-year Key Stage 3 – we want the curriculum to ensure that all students have both the academic depth and breadth of knowledge required to be successful at GCSE, and also have developed the required study skills and metacognitive approaches to learning that we instil to ensure students can develop long term knowledge and skills.

Key Stage 3 (Years 7-9)

Students follow courses in Maths, English, Science, History, Geography, French, Spanish, Victory Citizenship (RE and PSHE), Physical Education, ICT, Resistant Materials, Food and Nutrition, Art, Music, Drama and Dance. In addition, most students study two languages – French and Spanish in Year 7, and one language in Years 8 and 9. Pupils are placed in mixed ability tutor groups.  In Maths and Science students are grouped according to their ability but in other subjects they are taught in mixed ability groups.

GCSE (Years 10-11)

Key Stage 4 is introduced in Year 9, with courses commencing in Year 10. Our Pathways process is based on the interests, abilities and aptitude of pupils. It offers a range of GCSE and Level 2 Vocational qualifications, designed to support students to progress to Key Stage 5. No pupil is forced to study a non-core subject or down a curriculum route they do not wish to follow. 

At KS4 all pupils will study/follow:

  • The core subjects of English Language, English Literature, Mathematics and Science to full GCSE level. 
  • A choice of History or Geography
  • Subjects offered in our option structure include Individual Science, French, Spanish, Computing, Creative iMedia, Enterprise and Marketing, Health and Social Care, Food and Cookery, PE, Art, Media Studies, Design Technology, Engineering, Music, Dance and Drama
  • Core PE

At Key Stage 4 mixed ability tutor groups are retained. Setting continues in English, Mathematics and Science. The option groups are taught in mixed ability groups.

Key Stage 5 (Years 12-13)

At Key Stage 5 students can study a wide range of subjects taking advantage of the collaborative 6th form offer between TSAT secondary’s.

Students can choose options from The Victory Academy and Holcombe Grammar school and study options cross both school sites. This offer gives students a full breadth of subject choice and allows them access to combinations of subjects that will support them into university and employment.
